What is a negative image?
A negative swaps every color for its opposite: black becomes white and blue becomes orange. It is used for artistic effects, to make dark scans easier to read, and to preview scanned film negatives as positives.
JPG (also called JPEG) is the most widely used photo format. It uses lossy compression to keep files small and works everywhere, but it does not support transparency and loses a little quality every time it is re-saved.
PNG is a lossless format that keeps every pixel exactly and supports transparent backgrounds. It is ideal for logos, icons, screenshots and graphics, but photos saved as PNG are often very large.
WebP is a modern image format created by Google. It supports both lossy and lossless compression plus transparency, and typically produces files 25–35% smaller than JPG at the same visual quality. All modern browsers support it.

Frequently asked questions
Can I turn a film negative into a normal photo?
Inverting a scanned black-and-white negative gives you a positive. Color film negatives also have an orange tint, so they may need color correction afterwards.
Does inverting keep transparency?
Yes. Transparent areas stay transparent when you keep PNG or WEBP output.
Is this negative image tool free?
Yes. It is completely free with no sign-up, no watermarks and no limits on the number of images.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Your images are processed entirely inside your browser, so they never leave your device. That makes it private and very fast, even for large files.
Can I convert many images at once?
Yes. Drop or select as many images as you like. Each one is processed in turn, and you can download them one by one or all together as a ZIP file.
Does it work on iPhone, Android and Mac?
Yes. It runs in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers. Nothing needs to be installed.
