How does the background remover work?
An AI segmentation model (BEN2, MIT licensed) runs directly in your browser. It finds the main subject and makes everything else transparent. Nothing is sent to a server.
Why is the first image slow?
The AI model (about 220 MB) downloads the first time you use the tool and is then stored in your browser cache. With a modern graphics card (WebGPU in Chrome, Edge or Safari) each image takes a few seconds; on a CPU it can take up to a minute.
Can I put a white background behind the cut-out?
Yes. Choose white or any color under “Background”, and choose JPG output if you need a non-transparent file for a marketplace listing.
